Curbside recycling for businesses and multi-family
complexes
Interested businesses and Multi-family complexes within Salt Lake City may
be eligible to participate in the City's Curbside
Recycling Program.
Fee to participate
Salt Lake City will assess a fee of $3.75 per
container per month for non-garbage customers.
How to subscribe
To subscribe to the service,
owners or managers may contact Salt Lake City Streets and Sanitation
Division at 535-6999, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Subscriptions will not be accepted from tenants that are not listed as
current customers on the Public Utility billing. There is no limit to
the number of recycling containers an owner/manager may request.
Unfortunately, this service
may not be available or suitable for all multi-family complexes and
businesses in Salt Lake City. The City will assess each request to
determine eligibility. Factors such as access to a serviceable location or
City curb and whether your facility is within the existing service routes
may affect your eligibility to participate in the program.
Education / Outreach
In addition to paying the
monthly fee, the property owner or manager is also responsible for meeting
the following requirements of the ordinance governing this program.
-
Educate
every tenant/employee about how to participate in the program within 14 days
of receipt of the containers, and annually thereafter. (Flyers may be
requested by calling 535-6999.)
-
Monitor
recycling bins for contamination (placement of unacceptable items in the
recycling container) and educate tenants/employees as needed to prevent
further contamination. The owner/manager
will be responsible for removing any contamination from the container upon
request by the City or its contractor.
-
Monitor
use of containers to make sure there is adequate capacity. The contractor
will not empty containers that are over-filled (if the lid does not close),
nor will they collect items placed on the side of the container.
-
Ensure
containers are placed at a City curb (not inside the parking lot) by 7:00
a.m. on your weekly collection day. You will be informed of your collection day
when you subscribe for the service.
-
Serve
as an information source for tenants/employees in answering questions.
Violations
The City reserves the right
to discontinue service to any customer who fails to comply with the rules of
the program.
Research shows that
recycling programs in multi-tenant buildings and complexes are most
successful when the owner or manager takes a proactive roll in educating
tenants and fulfilling all of their responsibilities.
