Items you can not recycle

If you put items in your recycling bins that are on the following list, Allied Waste reserves the right to landfill the material or refuse to empty your bins. It costs the City more when Allied Waste has to landfill materials than if you had put it in your garbage can. If you have any questions about whether an item is recyclable, please call 972-4234.

Please do not put the following items in your recycling container:

  • glass

  • clothing

  • napkins, paper towels, toilet paper

  • hazardous waste

  • yard waste *

  • small appliances

  • food and food wrappings

* Click here for information about the City's yard waste program, starting March 2008.

Why not glass?

There are only a few small operations in Utah that will accept used glass. If we collected glass curbside, most of it would have to be shipped, at a very high cost, to out-of-state markets

When glass breaks and mixes with the other recyclables, it makes the other recyclables less marketable.

There are three drop off centers where you can take glass bottles:

Rotary Glen Park, 800 South 2770 East

Jordan Park (south entrance), 900 West 1000 South

Forest Dale Golf Course, 2375 South 900 East

Please separate brown glass bottles from clear and green glass bottles. Parks are open from dawn until dusk. This drop off is for glass bottles only. Please do not drop off ceramics, light bulbs, windows, glass dishes, etc.
